DOING THE RIGHT THING

Doing the right thing isn't always easy. If it were easy, the Bible wouldn't tell us "None is righteous, no, not one." (Romans 3:10) We should, however, strive to do what is right. James 1 tells us to not just be hearers of the Word, but doers, also. In 1 Corinthians 11, Paul tells us to imitate him as he imitates Christ. Paul also tells us in 1 Peter 3 that if we suffer because of righteousness, we will be blessed and it is better to suffer for doing good than for doing evil. Jesus clearly didn't just want us to hear him; he wanted us to act on what we have heard. Spend a couple of minutes each week as a family asking everyone to share when they did good or saw someone doing good. Ask everyone to share when they did bad/evil or saw someone doing bad/evil. Make sure and join in the discussion. Reward the answers of doing good with words of affirmation. Encourage the answers of doing bad/evil and thank them for recognizing their mistake. Pray for forgiveness and strength to do what is right.
